Report on all CIMA insurance markets Financial year 2022 In 2022, international economic activity was marked by a slowdown due mainly to geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine, combined with budgetary and monetary policies aimed at curbing high inflation. The growth rate of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) stood at 3.4% in 2022 compared to 5.9% in 2021. Economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa, as in other regions of the world, has slowed. The sub-Saharan GDP growth rate fell from 4.7% in 2021 to 3.6% in 2022, following the slowdown in the global economy, tightening financial conditions and volatility in commodity prices. In the CIMA zone, activity remained dynamic within the UEMOA with a GDP growth rate established at 5.6% in 2022 compared to 6.1% in 2021; it experienced an improvement in CEMAC countries where GDP increased, from a growth rate of 1.7% in 2021 to 2.9% in 2022. In this generally gloomy economic environment, the main indicators of the insurance industry have seen progress, notably with a 12.6% increase in life and non-life emissions for the entire market.
