National Directorate of Insurance of Equatorial Guinea

The General Direction of Banks, Insurance and Reinsurance of EQUATORIAL GUINEA was created on June 20, 1984, within the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

It is currently called General Direction of Financial Services and International Economic Organizations.

The General Directorate of Banks, Insurance and Reinsurance is organized as follows :
A General Manager;
A Head of Banking and Insurance Services;
A Head of the Insurance and Reinsurance Division (insurance companies, brokers, general agents, free providers and other professionals);
A Head of Division of Banks and EMF;
General Coordination;
A Management Secretariat;
and all other officials.

MISSIONS:

1) General Missions
General Direction of Financial Services and International Economic Organizations serves as a relay for the action of the Regional Commission for Insurance Control in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. And through Project PRO-SEGUROS, it promotes the insurance sector and also :

– safeguarding the interests of policyholders and beneficiaries of insurance and capitalization contracts;
– protection of savings held by insurance companies in return for technical provisions;
– the role of expert and immediate adviser in insurance matters to national authorities;
– general supervision of the insurance market.
It communicates to the Commission all information on the state of the companies and the evolution of the market so that the latter is able to take the appropriate decisions..

2) Specific missions
General Direction of Financial Services and International Economic Organizations ensures compliance with the application of regulations, the application of the single legislation, study of insurance contracts intended for the public and gives the visa.
– It communicates to the Commission the results of the technical checks it carries out.
– It collects the necessary data: statistics, report, studies, surveys;
– They carry out a pre-study of the authorization request files;
– It can manage insurance contracts taken out by the State and ensure that their clauses are properly drafted;
– It authorizes the exercise of the profession of intermediary and ensures compliance with the rules of professional qualification and solvency which apply to this profession;
– It exercises control over the technical experts who contribute to the assessment of claims and the proper execution of contracts.
